As we enter the winter weather season, please review the Yadkin Early College High School's Inclement Weather Policy and Information. This can be found on our website at:
https://yec.yadkin.k12.nc.us/o/yec/page/yecscc-inclement-weather-policy-information

Yadkin Early College High School classes follow Yadkin County Schools' Weather policy. If Yadkin County Schools are on an inclement weather delay, closing, or early release, Yadkin Early College High School classes are as well.

Students who are enrolled in Surry Community College classes will need to follow the weather decision made by SCC for those classes. IF parents feel it is safe for their student to do so, students may (but are not required to) attend their college classes as scheduled. If parents feel it is not safe for their child to attend college classes on a day when YCS is delayed or closed, they can have their college class absence excused, however they must email or contact their instructor about their absence. They are also responsible for any and all work they might miss. A college class absence due to a YCS inclement weather decision will not he held against a student. Bus transportation will operate on the YEC schedule for the day. If a student attends a college class that is outside of the Yadkin Early College delayed or early release schedule, parents will be responsible for transportation for their student. No special bus routes will be run for students in college courses. Freshmen college classes will operate on the YEC high school schedule. SCC classes will typically operate at their normal times during the day. They do not run a delay schedule as the high school does during inclement weather. So if a SCC class normally starts at 8:30 and the college does not open until 10:00, that class will not be in session. Students can check their MyKnightLife page for specific information.

If Yadkin Early College is on a delay, students will report to their homeroom for a 5-minute period then report to their 1st period class and follow an abbreviated schedule for the day. Bell schedules for delays are posted on our website.

Some days that school campuses are closed for students may be declared Remote Learning Days. On these days, students will work remotely from home on assignments provided by their instructors and attend any scheduled virtual class meetings using an online platform. Students will still be responsible for completing the assigned work for those days.

Weather
Due to the potential of inclement weather, Yadkin County Schools will be operating on a 2 hour delay. High school classes will operate on a delayed schedule. You can locate our bell schedule on our website at https://yec.yadkin.k12.nc.us/o/yec/page/bell-schedule .

Surry Community College classes do not follow YCS weather delays or closings. Students should check any SCC schedule changes and communicate with their instructor if they are unable to make it to class due to the YCS schedule changes.

Per the SCC adverse weather policy, students are not required to come to class when the College is open but their school is not. Students are allowed to make up missed work without penalty and the absence cannot count toward the maximum number of allowed absences in the missed class. Dually enrolled students should still participate in their online courses.

Weather update
PHONE MESSAGE FOR MONDAY, MAY 12, 2025. Good evening Yadkin Early College families. I hope this message finds you all well as we get very close to wrapping up another school year. We had a wonderful graduation ceremony this past Friday night where we recognized 45 graduates and celebrated their accomplishments. We wish them all the best as they set forth on a new chapter in their lives. We are now in the last 2 weeks of the school year so please listen carefully as I go over some important information. First, any student who has not turned in their college textbooks for their spring classes need to do so right away to avoid possible charges and late fees. Also, if a student has meal charges in the cafeteria, they need to take care of it this week. Letters and emails have been sent to those who have a negative balance. Regarding our schedule, this week is our final week of classes. Next week will be our exam week for all high school classes. We will have our teacher made exams on Monday, May 19. Students should talk with their teacher to know whether they are required to take the exams. Our teacher made exam schedule will follow that of a normal school day. We will have our final English 2 classes on Monday which will be followed by the EOC on Tuesday, May 20. All 9th grade students should be here for their English class on Monday and for the test on Tuesday morning. Any student who has a school device, such as a chromebook or calculator, must turn those in, along with the charging cable, prior to leaving for the school year. If there are any questions regarding any of these items, students should check with their teachers. I hope each of you have a wonderful evening.
