The goal of English as a Second Language Services in Yadkin County Schools is to teach language through content. We have aligned WIDA English Language Development Standards with YCS pacing guides and plan our instruction based on the same content being taught in the regular classroom. We strive to support and collaborate with regular classroom teachers and other specialists in an effort to make the content of core subjects accessible for all English learners.

ESL is not an intervention. ESL teachers provide a service to help students build English language skills. Our asset-based approach is designed to facilitate the process through which students utilize their first language knowledge and abilities to help them acquire English skills in the domains of listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
